Castration, sterilizing, gelding, or birth control: whatever you call it, it is one of the most dramatic surgical procedures on the medical books. However it has plenty of medical advantages. Animals can get diseases from sex hormones their body creates; neutering prevents this. Female pets can develop mammary tumors if the procedure isn't performed when they are young. We don't even have to mention the types of urinary infection or cancers this procedure prevents. So don't think of it as a horrible way to start a relationship with a pet.
