Who Controls Pet Health Products?

In this country, we have a lot of government to help protect us from ourselves. The FDA looks over most of our food products to make sure we aren't ingesting too many poisons. However, who controls the trafficking of pet health products? I recall several childhood friends that found it entertaining to snack on dog food and then describe the tastes passing over their tongues. I would normally catch myself asking if the FDA had stamped their seal of approval on the product. Most people wouldn't think the FDA are in a position to inspect pet products but they are; along with the ASPCA.
