Are Pet Rats For You?

For some folks the thought of a rat for a pet makes them queasy and rebels at the thought of a rat running around the house. We all have all probably seen too many movies where the rat is the subject of hate and likely hunted down and destroyed.

This thankfully is not the situation with pet rats. These rats have been selectively bred are well behaved and bond to there masters in much the same way that a dog bonds to its owner.

They are not aggressive towards humans and will return the affection which is given to them. They do require that you spend adequate time with them each day since the may stress if you do not pay sufficient attention to them.

Does Your Kid Want To Get Pet Rats?

Does your kid want to buy a couple of pet rats? Let me guess, you've heard that they don't handle very well and that pet rats bite a lot? I have heard the same thing but I know it is false. I have my own pet rats and I'll tell you why that idea is false.

The more you handle your pet rats when you first purchase them the quicker they will get used to your voice, smell and touch. Hold your pet rats as much as possible whether they seem to like it or not. What you are doing is training them to like you.

Remember, unless your pet rats are is very nervous or sick you cannot handle it too much. One of the best ways to get your pet rats to be comfortable with you is to carry them around in your sweater pocket or on your shoulder.

See, pet rats really aren't all that bad as long as you know how to train them. Let your kid get a pet rat and you'll soon see how right I am.
